Oer tile Eindhoven
From sludge to tile
Within the Oer project we investigate various applications of iron ores for ceramic products.
Iron sludge is a natural residual material of the production process of tap water, which we obtain directly from the water production company in Eindhoven. We transform the iron sludge into a pigment by drying, grinding and sieving the material several times. This process results in the Oer tile which is available in series of tiles in different shades of pink.
In May 2023 Koninklijke Tichelaar installed 9000 Oer tiles on one of the walls of a new sustainable water production building designed by Inbo Architects for client Brabant Water in Eindhoven.
Kirstie van Noort and Lotte de Raadt investigated the possibilities of iron sludge (a residue from groundwater at the same location) in tiles.
The tile pattern design is a puzzle consisting of glazed and partly glazed tiles. Together it form an abstract reflection of glittering water
